Camden’s Birthday

Coop & Cam

This year for Camden’s Birthday we were supposed to have a sleepover…  We had it all planned and then we found out that they rescheduled a baseball game for that same night from a previous day since it had been rained out.  We felt really bad that all the boys had to miss out on the fun so we asked Camden if there was anything else he wanted to do with his friends on his actual birthday!?!  We had looked at the calendar and we are literally booked solid with baseball every weekend for the next two months so we didn’t see another sleepover doable in the foreseeable future!  :)  Camden chose to go to to Safari Sams so last minute we asked all the same boys from the sleepover if they wanted to join the fun and they all were able to make it last minute!  Praise God!!  We had an absolute blast catching up with friends and all of the kids played glow in the dark mini golf, went on the HUGE jungle gym thing and earned tons of tickets in the arcade.  Since we were gone for 9 hours at baseball games and pictures on Saturday followed by Missional Community that evening and then church on Sunday morning, there was no way for me to bake any goodies for the party so Costco to the rescue…  And we decided we LOVE their cakes anyway!  :)  haha

Thank you all for the birthday wishes for our precious little ‘BIG’ 8 year old, and for our friends who joined in to celebrate our precious little man!  We are so blessed by you all and so grateful for your friendships!  :)

Here are a couple of pictures of the birthday boy with his friends.  We didn’t get many pictures and I didn’t get pictures of all of the boys but we all had so much fun catching up I failed to take any pictures…  :) The last pictures are from dinner…  Camden chose to go to The Thirsty Lion for our family dinner.  Great choice, buddy!  We had so much fun!  :)

What if You Didn’t Have ‘One More Time’?

hug

Nicole asks, ”If one day he didn’t come home, would I have to live with regrets of how or what I did (or didn’t do) for him?”

Just three months later she writes,”I’m not even sure that I have the words to say… On Thursday, December 13th, I received a phone call that forever altered my life. I got a call from my husband’s business partner saying that a tree had fallen on him while he was working. I hurried down to the job only to find that he was already with Jesus.”

A sobering thought, isn’t it? It could have been me, it could have been you, it could have been any one of us. Life is too short to take our loved ones for granted and Nicole realized that before he was gone.

I asked Nicole if I could share her post with you–the one that she wrote just three months before her husband Chad went to be with the Lord.

What if You Didn’t Have ‘One More Time’?
Nicole from “I’m Staying Home With My Mom.”

This is a topic near and dear to my heart. I could have easily lost my hubby to a work accident a little over a year into our marriage. While that opened my eyes to how short life can be, I still fell back into a pattern of selfishness after he healed. We had some very hard years following that time. It always fell back to finances, which were frequently non-existent. We were aware that our fights almost always fell back to a money issue, but I think I also liked to fight because I had this insatiable desire to be right (and be in control).

My need to be in control (of everything) was causing me to base my treatment of my hubby on works (what he did for me or how he treated me). I’m not even sure when it hit me, but one day I had a realization.

If one day he didn’t come home, would I have to live with regrets of how or what I did (or didn’t do) for him?

For example:

  • Would getting up to pack his lunch be a big deal?
  • Would I long to rub his back….just one more time? (He has back issues due to the accident and I too often gripe about this never ending task)
  • Would I find the energy to ‘have fun in the bedroom’….just one more time?
  • Would I drop what I was doing to help him with whatever….just one more time?

I have to be careful because these thoughts can cause me to fall into a state of constant worry that something will, indeed, happen to him….but keeping this perspective has taken so much of the laziness or irritation that sometimes pops up at bay.

I cringe when I hear women griping about having to do this or that for their hubby. I just think, “What if he wasn’t here. What would you give to be able to do that for him one more time?”

I used to get so mad when my hubby didn’t act how I wanted him to or do what I wanted him to, but when you are just thankful for one more day with him, it makes the little things seem so unimportant.

Yes, I still occasionally whine about rubbing his back. I still grumble to myself when I pick his dirty clothes up off the floor or put his dog collar chargers away (for the millionth time)….but in my mind I constantly hear “be thankful for this stuff to do because it means he’s still here with you”.

Perspective is everything!

There will always be things that bug you about your spouse, but in their absence…would those things actually be that bad?

This is Nicole with her dear husband and high school sweet heart Chad. Please keep Nicole and her children in your prayers. And while you do, perhaps you’d like to visit her blog to leave her a note of encouragement? Be gentle with her heart and love on her as Jesus would have us to do.

Here’s a link to her blog: I’m Staying Home With My Mom

Thank you for your encouragement, Nicole. You have taught us all a lesson in love that we won’t soon forget.

I got this amazing story in my email box sent to me by The Time Warp Wife.  I am so grateful for this story because it has caused me to really examine my words and actions every single day…  You just never know how long you really have with your loved ones.  Life is much too short!

I spent the weekend with some girlfriends and we attended the Women Of Faith Conference in Portland.  This was my 10th year going and it was the best year yet!  All of the ladies I went with have a deep love for Jesus and it was so fun to just be real with one another and get to fellowship and love each other!  We all have one vision and that’s Jesus and how we can better our walk with Him.  I was so encouraged and it was truly amazing!  Here are a couple of snippets of what it’s all about and I will post pictures this week…  AWESOME!!

Apart from Me you can do nothing.’  John 15:5

Monday we had some old friends from Biola over and we had an amazing time!  The kids all played so well and loved every minute with each other and I got to sit and have girl time with Kelly and chit chat.  I had a blast and wish we got to see them way more often…  Makes me miss living down here in SoCal so much!!!  :)

We BBQ’d turkey burgers for dinner and Kelly made some delicious Peanut Butter Balls for desert!  I had to have the recipe so Kelly so graciously shared it with me…  Here it is…  They are super easy to make and absolutely decadent!

Peanut Butter Balls
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 stick of unsalted softened butter
2.5 cups powdered sugar
1 cup chocolate chips (approx)

Mix first three ingredients together.
Form into small balls and place on a large cookie sheet.
Freeze for about 30 minutes.
Melt chocolate chips in a bowl for increments of 20 seconds, stirring after each.
Use a spoon and pour over the top of each ball.
Top with an m&m, several m&m’s, Reeses, chocolate chip, or whatever you’d like!!

Sorry this post is waaaaaaaaaay late but for some odd reason I couldn’t upload the photos for the life of me…  So a month later you get to see how we spent Fathers Day weekend in photos…  We went down to Devils Lake with some friends for some fun in the sun~ friendship with lots of laughs, delicious food including making smores in the bonfire and play time on the boat.  We had an amazing time and memories that we’ll cherish for a lifetime!  :)

Yes, of course I baked! ;)

I know you’ll all be asking for the recipe…  these cookies are a cinch to make and totally addicting.  I make them monthly and every time we go away because they travel well and they are a favorite of everyone who tries them.  A girlfriend of mine made them for me when I was on bedrest and I’ve been hooked ever since~ And now so is everyone else!  ;)
